Want to become an Aspiring Teacher?

Are you passionate about education but unsure if teaching is the right career path for you? The Aspiring Teacher Programme (ATP) is the perfect opportunity for individuals like you who are considering a career in secondary education but want to gain more time and experience before committing to formal teacher training. This programme allows you to explore the realities of teaching, gain invaluable hands-on experience, and make an informed decision about your future in the profession.

Why Choose the Aspiring Teachers Programme?

Experience Teaching Without Immediate Commitment:

If you're thinking about becoming a teacher but want to experience what life in the classroom is really like, the ATP offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world classroom experience. It’s an ideal way to get a taste of teaching without having to immediately dive into formal teacher training.

Supporting Role in Your Specialist Area:

As part of the programme, you will work within a department that aligns with your degree, whether it’s Maths, Science, English, or any other subject area. This allows you to provide support to teachers and students while gaining hands-on experience in the classroom.

Flexible, Paid Supply Work:

For up to a year, you will have the chance to work on supply, providing valuable support in different classrooms and across a variety of teaching environments. This flexibility enables you to experience diverse school settings and work with a wide range of students.

Pathway to School-Centered Initial Teacher Training (SCITT):

After completing your supply work, you may be eligible to transition into a School-Centered Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme. SCITT is a school-based approach to teacher training that allows you to learn and earn while working in schools. This is an excellent opportunity to gain more practical experience while progressing towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.

A Clear Route to Paid Teacher Training:

The ATP offers a structured pathway to paid teacher training. You could progress into recognised programmes such as PGCE, PGCEI, or SCITT, which are designed to give you the academic knowledge and practical experience needed to become a fully qualified teacher.
