Salary: £80–£100 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Cover People are currently recruiting on behalf of a fantastic SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Oldham. We’re looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant who is passionate about supporting children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who need tailored support to thrive both academically and personally.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to pupils with SEMH needs, encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to implement consistent strategies.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of behaviour management plans and interventions.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils to foster trust and engagement.
  • Support learning activities both in and out of the classroom, including during unstructured times.

✅ The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A calm, resilient and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant experience in youth work, psychology, or behaviour support.
