Whether you have experience in PRUs, alternative provision, youth services, or pastoral support, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Secondary Behaviour Mentor, you’ll work closely with pupils who require additional guidance to succeed in school.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs

  • Implement and support behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Build trusting relationships that promote self-esteem and positive choices

  • Support students both in-class and through dedicated intervention sessions

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and families to improve outcomes

  • Help create calm, consistent environments conducive to learning

Who We’re Looking For

  • A youth worker, teaching assistant, or graduate with experience supporting young people

  • A sports coach, mentor, or outreach worker interested in education

  • Calm, resilient, and able to maintain clear boundaries

  • Passionate about helping young people build confidence and success in school

Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or SEN (such as ADHD, ASD, or trauma-related needs) is highly desirable.

What Cover People UK Offer:

  • Competitive daily rates (£90–£100)

  • Long- and short-term placements – choose what suits you

  • Your own dedicated consultant for ongoing support

  • Free CPD including behaviour management, safeguarding, and intervention strategies

  • A pathway into teaching, SEN support, or pastoral careers

  • ‘Refer a Friend’ bonus – earn up to £100 per successful referral

Progression Opportunities

This role can be a stepping stone into:

  • Teaching Assistant (SEN or mainstream)

  • Cover Supervisor or Unqualified Teacher roles

  • Teacher training (PGCE, SCITT, or Schools Direct)

  • SENCO, pastoral, or safeguarding officer roles

  • Alternative provision or PRU careers
