Cover People are seeking compassionate, flexible, and resilient individuals to work as Cover Supervisors within SEN schools across Tameside. These schools provide nurturing, inclusive environments for pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
As a Cover Supervisor in a specialist setting, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining learning and structure during staff absences, while supporting pupils to stay engaged, calm, and motivated throughout the school day. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a lasting impact on young learners’ confidence, wellbeing, and progress.
Position: Cover Supervisor – SEN
Location: Tameside
Employment Type: Full Time/Part Time, Monday to Friday (8:30am–3:30pm)
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and support classes during teacher absences within SEN environments.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using effective de-escalation techniques.
• Provide individual and small-group support tailored to pupils’ needs.
• Ensure students remain on task and engaged with the work provided by teachers or SLT.
• Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
Requirements:
• A degree or relevant experience working with children or young people.
• A passion for supporting learners with additional needs (ASC, SEMH, or SLCN).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, empathetic approach and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through Cover People UK.
