SEN Teaching Assistant – North Manchester (Openshaw, M11)

Cover People are recruiting a committed and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support a primary school in Openshaw, North Manchester (M11). The school is seeking a practitioner with a strong background in supporting pupils with additional needs and the confidence to contribute to a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
This role is particularly well-suited to candidates with sports coaching experience, especially those accustomed to engaging children through structured activities, behaviour regulation techniques, and clear routines.
Key Requirements

Demonstrable experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school or alternative provision.

Positive handling, Team Teach, or equivalent training is highly desirable.

Strong behaviour management capabilities and the ability to employ consistent, calm, and proactive support strategies.

An adaptable, resilient approach and the capacity to build positive, professional relationships with pupils and staff.

Ability to work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO, delivering both one-to-one and small-group interventions.
Preferred Background

Experience in sports coaching, youth work, or activity-based provision where engagement, structure, and behaviour support are key.

Understanding of de-escalation techniques and sensory or movement-based regulation strategies.
Compliance Requirements
